Aviation emissions are 2-4 (and as much as 5) times worse than ground emissions from traffic because they are direct into the stratosphere. Biofuel (oil made from food that would otherwise feed starving, impoverished people) and tar sands oil (made from obscene environmental destruction and resource abuse) are now beginning to fuel air travel.

Despite aviation's contribution to climate change and the devastating impacts that the 7 trillion dollar travel industry - that's right, TRILLION - is having on the people of the most impoverished nations, flights worldwide are projected to double by 2025.

If that's not disturbing enough, the U.S. and China recently agreed to double flights between their countries by 2012 and the British government is attempting to add a third runway at Heathrow, the busiest airport in the world, while excluding air travel in all its climate treaty and emissions reductions calculations!
