Number of earthquakes worldwide in 1990: 16,590.  Number in 2008: 31,777... If one calculates the number of earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 and higher between 1990 and 2010, there’s almost a 24% increase. A recent U.S. Supreme Court decision has overturned decades of legal precedent and given corporations (like big oil and coal) the right to spend as much as they'd like to influence elections, which will allow them an even greater dominance of the American (and global) political process than they already have.
